When my Dad Left

Ladydi mother worked in a very rich house on Acapulco; she cleaned the house and takes cared of it with Ladydi. Her mother always robbed something from this house. Mainly toilet paper and food.  Ladydi didn’t understood why, and she always told her mother that it’s bad but she always kept doing it because they were poor. His dad used to give them money each month and he came to visit them once a year. But the last time he came he didn’t return. Ladydis mom was sure that he would never return and everything she did was wishing him dead. One day her mom was drinking a lot and she started saying that she had to know the truth about her father, that he had slept with her best friend, Maria's mother. Ladydis reaction was to get a beer and drank it really fast.

“That was the first time my daddy left. He didn’t even wake me up from my drunk, new-drunk sleep to say goodbye” pg. (44)

This part of the story reminds me of a place I help where many children are abandoned by their families or are abused or have problems in the place they live. In this place for children I knew a boy that had sort of the same problem. He lived with his mom and she locked her in the house with anything to eat and the only thing her mom gave to this kid was alcohol so he learned to drink. Until one day the owners of this place found this child and took him to their house with them.

“As the years passed my mother grew angrier and began to drink too much” pg. (41)

Ladydi mother is not very responsible. She shouldn’t be drinking if she has a daughter and if her daughter is in danger. She should also be working all days a week, not only weekends. She also shouldn’t be stealing things from others because it’s not the best thing to do. In the other hand Ladydi is much careful with what she does. She is helping her mom get jobs and cleaning her house and room. But she is known getting worse and starting to be like her mom, drunk.

Payers for the Stolen are a very interesting book and it’s getting really dramatically. I like how the author makes the reader have suspense and want to keep reading. I think Ladydi dad is going to come back and her mom is going to get crazy and maybe kill him. Furthermore she is going to try to hide it from Ladydi but she is going to discover somehow the body.
